A woman with Premium Bonds dating to the 1970s reached out to NS&I for help with finding out if she had any winnings to collect.

The customer got in touch over X, formerly Twitter, to ask: "I have two old Premium Bonds dating to 1974. How can I check them?

"We moved and I have no idea if we ever won in the past. The numbers won't register on the prize checker app."

A member of the customer support team instructed them in how they could check if they had any unclaimed prizes.

They said in reply: "Please send us a written letter to NS&I, Sunderland SR43 2SB. Include your name, date of birth, current and former addresses along with any information you may know about these Bonds.

"Once found, we'll update your details, check for any outstanding prizes and issue you with an updated Bond record confirming your holder's number and balance.

"You'll be able to use this information to register for online access at http://nsandi.com."

If you find some old Bonds from many years ago, it's worth checking if they have any unclaimed prizes as each £1 Bond has an equal chance of being paired with a prize in the monthly draw.

Prizes range from the jackpot £1million to £25, with other large cash prizes including £100,000 and £50,000.

Lucky savers often choose to reinvest their winnings in purchasing more Bonds, which increases their chances of winning again.

The prize fund rate for Premium Bonds is currently 4.4 percent, with the odds of winning at 21,000 to 1.

You can check for any prizes using the prize checker tool on the NS&I website or app, or using an Alexa-enabled device.

Another Premium Bonds customer recently got in touch over old Bonds they had discovered, which also dated back to the 1970s.

They asked NS&I over X: " They’ve given them to me but I have no idea what to do with them. Can you help?"

A representative of the savings provider said in response: "When you find old Premium Bonds, the best thing to do is complete the Online and Phone service registration form.

"Once we receive this, we will update the information on the account and send you login details to access the account through our website."
