Brits have been treated to a summer of sport full of highlights - from England’s silver medal in Euro 2024 to Lewis Hamilton winning the British Grand Prix plus Wimbledon - all followed by the Olympics this week.

And British Gas is offering sports mad customers the chance to slash their bills on three keys dates in a bid to help the millions of people who’ll be tuning into the Paris Olympics on the BBC.

The energy supplier runs a scheme called PeakSave, whereby it offers reduced price bills to customers on certain dates where people are going to be using a lot of energy, such as during big Olympics events.

Now British Gas is offering half price electricity from 9am to 5pm every Sunday this summer, plus two ‘Super Saturdays’.

The two Saturdays with cheap electricity will be Saturday, August 3rd and Saturday, September 7th.

British Gas says that during the eight hour events you can ‘use as much electricity as you need’ and it will be half the usual price per unit, perfect for using high energy devices like a tumble dryer or charging an EV.

And those watching the Paris Olympics coverage on the BBC this July and August will be able to benefit from several cut-price days.

British Gas said: “Brits can settle into TV sporting action and all the tea to power them through, as British Gas extends its PeakSave offer this summer. Every Sunday this summer and on two Super Saturdays (3rd August and 7th September) from 9am-5pm, those signed up to PeakSave can use electricity for half the price, as British Gas celebrates its partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB.”

Catherine O’Kelly, managing director of British Gas Energy said: “Our PeakSave half price electricity offer is already helping our customers to save money, while also shifting usage away from peak times. Tea and telly are a match made in heaven so we’re incredibly excited to launch this offer, and help the nation kick back with the sporting action and a cuppa in hand – knowing that they’ll be getting more for less all summer.

"Whether we’re cheering with Lewis Hamilton or biting our nails during England penalties, the summer of sport brings the nation together. We’ll all be supporting our British athletes in Paris along with Ellie and Richie, and we know they’ll do us proud. We’re all hoping for big successes like the unforgettable Super Saturday of London 2012, but our results show that we’ll be bursting with pride whatever happens.”
