WILLIAM Hill is set to take a record £3 million in bets on England's women footballers if the Lionesses get past hosts the Netherlands tonight to reach the Euro 2017 final.

The 10-fold increase compared with the previous tournament was matched by the £3 million wagered with the bookmaker on England's victorious world cup women's cricket team.
William Hill chief executive Philip Bowcock said in a statement: "The success of the England women's teams has led to a boom in patriotic bets on women's sport."
He added: "We have seen a tenfold increase in bets."

It comes as William Hill reported a huge increase in online sports betting over the past six months.
The amount gambled on cricket, football, golf and other sports was up 13 per cent on the same period in 2016.

Average revenue per customer was up 9 per cent and there were also gains from gamblers new to William Hill.
FTSE 250 group Hills said it was having "good momentum" online, helped by innovations such as #YourOdds, enabling personalised service.
Shares yesterday rose 15½p to 268p.
