BONMARCHE blamed lack of fashion sense and unseasonal weather for a same-store sales drop which melted annual profit by nearly 40 per cent.

The clothing retailer admitted casual ranges had not been "appealing" and lacked innovation, while its loyalty scheme failed to contribute to sales growth.
It said: "We are not fully utilising the data which the scheme provides, for example, to engage more effectively with customers, or reward the most loyal."
Sales were also hit by the collapse of BHS as the department store group's clothes were sold off at a discount, while "the weather during the first half of the year provided a disincentive to shop for seasonal clothing".

Annual pre-tax profit for the company fell by 39.4 per cent to £5.8million after store like-for-like sales dropped by 4.3 per cent.
The company said in a statement this week: “The apparel market has been in decline, with demand affected by consumers’ response to factors such as inflation, the referendum on Brexit, and unseasonal weather patterns, which, as we have noted in the past, significantly influence our customers’
