A WEEK after a 7 carat flawless blue diamond it discovered was sold at auction for £6.3million, the sparkle went out of Petra diamonds, down 3p to 38p, as it suspended development of its Kono project in Sierra Leone due to weak gem prices.
Connemara Mining firmed 5½p to 15p after discovering significant quantities of zinc in Ireland’s County Kerry in an area historically associated with silver and lead.
Cambrian Mining gained 1½p to 48½p after it agreed to be bought by Western Canadian Coal, while speculators scratching around the mining sector for bargains alighted on South East Asia gold explorer Triple Plate Junction, ¼p richer at 1.88p.
Oil and gas group Gulfsands Petroleum reversed 2¾p to 172¾p after one of its directors, Mahdi Sajjad, sold 1.38million shares for a stake of 6.94 per cent. Fellow director Andrew Rose bought 100,000 shares for a 0.34 per cent holding.
Max Property Group, the new investment vehicle of tycoon Nick Leslau, marked its Aim debut with a 27½p rise to 127½p having raised £200,000million.
