Phil Collins has said he would have quit Genesis for The Who
The 65-year-old, who announced he was coming out of retirement for a new tour on Monday, made the reveal during a webchat.
He said, speaking to fans on The Guardian: “Absolutely would have joined The Who. I would have left Genesis to join The Who.
“But they’ve got a great drummer now in Zak Starkey, he’s fantastic. Someone with the balls that Keith Moon had.”
Moon died in 1978 of a drug overdose when Collins had already been a member of Genesis for eight years.

This wasn’t the only outrageous comment Collins has made in the last week.
In an interview to promote his Not Dead Yet Live Tour, the singer launched an extraordinary attack on Sir Paul McCartney.
Speaking in The Sunday Times, he said: “I met him when I was working at the Buckingham Palace Party at the Palace thing back in 2002.
“McCartney came up with Heather Mills and I had a first edition of The Beatles by Hunter Davies and I said, 'Hey Paul, do you mind signing this for me?' And he said, 'Oh Heather, our little Phil's a bit of a Beatles fan.'
“And I thought, 'You f**k, you f**k.' Never forgot it.”
Collins has also spoken out about the possibility of another Genesis reunion.
The band last toured together in 2007, in what was supposed to be their big goodbye.
He said: “I wouldn't want to do anything that lasted six months or a long time. But I wouldn’t rule out doing something.”
Collins made the reveal at the press conference where he announced his new tour.

Collins will perform five nights at the Royal Albert Hall next June
The singer has admitted he’ll only be on vocals for the 2017 UK tour, with his 15-year-old son Nicholas playing the drums in his stead.
Collins said: “I think I'll be just singing. I don't think I'll ever be able to play the way I used to.”
“I play with my fingers, and that’s where the dexterity has gone. They’ve clammed up, and I’m hoping to get the strength back in them."
Collins will perform at the Royal Albert Hall on June 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 with tickets on sale Friday, October 21.
