CD Review - Thomas Dolby, A Map Of The Floating City (Lost Toy People)
THERE is much to admire in Thomas Dolby’s 30-year career – early singles like Urges and Europe & The Pirate Twins, his masterful production work on Prefab Sprout’s greatest albums.
But his solo albums have never quite hung together, and A Map…, his first for two decades, is a mess.
Dolby’s talent for electronic textures puts the overrated Moby to shame throughout the record but he never quite conjures up a proper song to go with them; these are more like half-formed sketches with snatches of spoken word.
