Album review: Various Artists - Heroes & Sweethearts (USM Media Two discs and DVD)
From The Andrews Sisters and Vera Lynn to Flanagan & Allen and the incomparable Al Bowlly this perfectly-timed collection contains every Second World War song of note.
Everyone has a favourite. I’ll go for A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square, performed by Anne Shelton with a grace and poignancy that suggests said square could be rubble any minute.
VERDICT 4/5
