STAR WARS The Force Awakens’ ending was altered last minute, according to Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill.

It took a whole movie to get there, but after a couple of hours Hamill finally returned as Luke for the first time in three decades.
Having been absent for almost the entirety of Star Wars The Force Awakens, Luke is about to play a major role in this year’s big follow-up, The Last Jedi.
Now in a new interview, Hamill revealed that the first film’s ending on Ahch-To could have been very different and that a scene was cut.
Speaking with EMPIRE, the actor said: “There was something that happened at the end of The Force Awakens when I’m standing on the cliff.”

He continued: “I called Rian [Johnson, The Last Jedi director] in a panic because it was all wrong.
“He said, ‘It’s okay, I spoke to JJ [Abrams, The Force Awakens director] and he’s taking that scene out.’
“It just didn’t match up with what Rian had written.”
In another recent interview Hamill admitted he was appalled when he found out The Last Jedi was two and half hours long.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, he said: “I was appalled when I heard that. The good news is I’ve seen it, and it’s like The Godfather. It doesn’t feel that long.
“And I’m really cranky. I’m one of those guys where you go see, like, a big superhero movie and you go, ‘I really love it, but it’s too long!’”
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will be released in UK cinemas on December 14, 2017.
