It’s been three years in the making and now disaster movie Geostorm is in hot water.
The $120 million (£90 million) blockbuster has opened in the US with a measly $13.3 million (£10 million) and looks set to make a horrendous loss.
According to Deadline Geostorm is likely to lose at least a shocking $100 million (£75 million).
So what exactly went wrong with Butler’s global warming flick?
Gerard Butler's Geostorm had a disappointing opening of $13.3 million in the US
Firstly, a source last year alleged the original cut of Geostorm was “unwatchable” before it went into $15 million (£11 million) worth of re-shoots.
Meanwhile an excuse shared by the film’s studio partners is a lack of appetite for the film following the recent natural disasters across the US in Florida, Houston and Puerto Rico.
Nevertheless Deadline divulge the main reason for Geostorm’s failure is that it’s the type of movie cinema-goers have seen many times before.
That plus the film was directed by Dean Devlin, a producer turned first time director who apparently was quite independent during the film’s making.
