The One Direction star had famously long locks, but chopped them off to play Alex in Christopher Nolan’s war epic.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, he recalled: “When I auditioned for a movie set in World War II, I imagined I’d probably have to have a little trim!
“So I didn’t think about it too much really; it kind of went without saying.”
The movie is out next week and has already had swathes of positive early buzz on social media from those privy to screenings.

“It was an amazing experience,” Harry added. “I think between getting to work with an amazing group of actors and Chris, and the scale of the production, it’s hard not to feel very grateful.
“And very lucky to be part of an amazing project."
Styles is part of an all-star ensemble that also includes Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy and Mark Rylance.
Nolan recently compared his casting to that of Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight, based on the amount of fuss around him.
