CANNES FILM FESTIVAL held a minute’s silence today in the wake of last night’s terrorist attack in Manchester.

A suicide bomber killed 22 and injured at least another 59 last night, with several of them facing “life-threatening” injuries, according to Prime Minister Theresa May.
The bomb was detonated in the moments after a concert by Ariana Grande at the city’s Manchester Arena.
In a statement posted to Twitter, the Cannes press team said: “The Festival de Cannes would like to express its horror, anger and immense sadness following the attack on the public and the city of Manchester last night.
“This is yet another attack on culture, youth and joyfulness, on our freedom, generosity and tolerance, all things that the Festival and those who make it possible - the artists, professionals and spectators - hold dear.

Shock has been expressed globally following the attack, with Grande herself tweeting: “broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words.”
Fellow singer Lorde summed up the mood of a lot of Grande’s peers when she said: “every musician feels sick & responsible tonight—shows should be safe for you. truly a worst nightmare. sending love to manchester & ari.”
The status of Manchester Arena’s upcoming program of events, including concerts by Take That later this week, remains unconfirmed.

As for the rest of Grande’s tour, it is widely rumoured to be suspended - although there have been no official announcements.
The O2, where she is set to appear on Thursday, tweeted: “Ariana is due to perform at The O2 on Thursday and Friday and we will advise as soon as we can as to the status of those shows.”
