MOONLIGHT and Love And Friendship have bagged the most nods as the London Film Critics’ Circle announces its shortlist of nominees for its 2017 awards.
Moonlight and Love And Friendship lead the charge for the London Film Critics' Circle 2017
The prize-giving bash is set to take place on January 22, with the two movies looking in good shape to take home silverware.
Moonlight, a study of repressed sexuality in the African-American community, and Love And Friendship, a costume comedy adapted from Jane Austen’s Lady Susan, both received seven nominations.
Kate Beckinsale, who stars in the latter, has two nominations to her name; one for Actress of the Year, and the other for British/Irish Actress of the Year.
In the former category, she faces Amy Adams (Arrival), Sandra Huller (Toni Erdmann), Isabelle Huppert (Things To Come) and Emma Stone (La La Land). Notable absences included supposed Oscar and Golden Globes contender Natalie Portman for her work in Jackie.
Kate Beckinsale has herself bagged two acting nods
The male acting field, meanwhile, is a race between Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea), Adam Driver (Paterson), Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nocturnal Animals) and Peter Simonischek (Toni Erdmann).
The film of the year shortlist consists of American Honey, Fire at Sea, I Daniel Blake, La La Land, Love and Friendship, Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight, Nocturnal Animals, Son of Saul and Toni Erdmann.
