‘I know NOTHING outside of what I’m doing’ Thor 3 director ‘ignoring’ other Marvel films
THOR: RAGNAROK director Taika Waititi has shocked fans after admitting his lack of knowledge of other Marvel films and says he’ll ignore them for Chris Hemsworth’s third outing.
What was Thor doing during Captain America: Civil War
The Kiwi filmmaker was a rogue choice for the latest Thor film, being best known for indie comedies like What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
Marvel chose Waititi for his humour, but fans are now worried he’s going to mess up the franchise.
The 41-year-old director took part in an Ask Me Anything discussion on Reddit where fans could discuss Thor: Ragnarok.
It turns out he’s not concerned about crossover connections with the rest of the MCU and just wants to focus on making the movie his own.
Thor: Ragnarok director Waititi has admitted he's ignoring the other Marvel films
Thor: The Dark World was the Asgardian Prince's last solo outing in 2013.
Waititi said: “I made an effort to ignore the fact there are other Thor films.
“I honestly know NOTHING outside of what I’m doing.
“I’m trying to ignore the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie.”
Despite the reveal, fans shouldn’t worry as there’s no doubt Marvel boss Kevin Feige will ensure the right nods are made to Thor’s fellow superheroes.
Fans were reassured back in August when Hemsworth’s Thor was spotted on set of the third Thor film holding a card which had Doctor Strange’s address on it.
This is a direct confirmation of a cameo by Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme.
Waititi’s humorous take on Thor has already been seen in Comic-Con short mockumentary he directed, called Team Thor.
The spoof video investigated what the Asgardian Prince was up to following his absence in Captain America: Civil War.
Thor: Ragnarok sees the superhero team up with the Hulk on an inter-galactic road trip
Thor is shown having “some me time” living in Australia with his Average Joe flatmate Darryl.
Waititi has said he would like to make some more Marvel shorts to follow up Team Thor.
He said: “That would be a dream come true. I’d love to actually make a bunch of them.”
Thor: Ragnarok is released in UK cinemas October 27, 2017.
