Total Film’s Ghostbusters cover branded ‘SEXIST’ with Chris Hemsworth's secretary
TOTAL FILM’S Ghostbusters cover has been called sexist with Thor's Chris Hemsworth at the centre.
Total Film's Ghostbusters' cover has been branded 'sexist'
The movie magazine has received backlash on Twitter with the Thor actor standing in the middle of the all-female Ghostbusters team.
People are unhappy because Hemsworth is the group’s secretary, a supporting character.
Ghostbusters stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon in a film that’s already received a lot of heavy criticism online, something Sony’s Chief has called ‘the greatest thing that ever happened’.
However fans of the reboot’s gender swap took to Twitter to express their outrage at Total Film’s new cover.
Hemsworth is at the centre despite only being a supporting character
One said: “Bit shocked that @totalfilm's #Ghostbusters cover has Chris Hemsworth's supporting character front and centre.”
Another said: “Made all the more divisive by you putting the ONLY MAN in it in the centre of your cover @EverydaySexism @totalfilm.”
One added: “@TNeenan @finkowska @totalfilm wait until you look inside and see the ONLY interview for the new ghostbusters is with him. Mental.”

Total Film’s editor-in-chief, Jane Crowther, responded to the sexism accusation.
She said: “This film has attracted ugly criticism from the get-go and I was always determined to put a female-led blockbuster on Total Film’s cover.
“We supported the film from the beginning and interviewed everyone for this feature - director, Paul Feig, the leads (Wiig, McCarthy, Jones and McKinnon) and Hemsworth.
“And our feature frankly discusses the sexism and backlash against the film with all those we talked to.
“Not sexist at all – but if it gets people talking about, and more aware of, sexism – and gets bums on seats for a female-led summer blockbuster all to the good.”
Ghostbusters stars respond to criticism about all-female cast
The all-female Ghostbusters hit cinemas later this month
While the magazine didn’t intend for the cover to be sexist, it could be construed that Hemsworth was placed centre stage as the biggest star.
Also, there’s four Ghostbusters so perhaps he’d been placed at the centre for a symmetrical effect.
Ghostbusters is released in UK cinemas on July 15, 2016.
