Melissa McCarthy's furious response to Ghostbusters trailer criticism
GHOSTBUSTERS star Melissa McCarthy has responded to internet criticisms of the trailer she’s in, alongside Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth.
GHOSTBUSTERS - Official Trailer #2
McCarthy was not happy with the trolls
The actress said: “All those comments – ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’ I mean, really, four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood?
“I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone, McCarthy’s husband], not having friends.
“So they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend.”
McCarthy’s backlash follows after the first Ghostbusters trailer became the most disliked film trailer on YouTube ever.
The reboot's all-female cast hasn't been popular with all the fans
The supernatural comedy is also, at time of writing, the ninth most disliked video on YouTube ever.
The ranking doesn’t mean the trailer is objectively bad per say, after all the teaser is beaten in the Top 10 by hit Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber music videos.
Ghostbusters and clips like this have been repeatedly disliked by internet trolls determined to shame aspects of popular culture that are in fact, loved by many.
Negativity surrounding the movie reboot is thought to be a reaction to director Paul Feig’s decision to switch the male foursome to an all female cast.
Feig was recently quoted as saying that disliking the film because of the female cast was, “just a non-starter.”
However some fans have voiced another reason being that the classic 1984 movie should never have been remade.
The trailer has also received criticism for Jones’ character who many felt was a racist stereotype, as her MTA employee contrasted with the three other college-educated white scientists.
The girls will be going up against a whole host of new ghosts
A second trailer hit the internet on May 18, which the trolls are also targeting with 60,000 dislikes to 15,000 likes, at time of writing.
Ghostbusters is released this summer and sees McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon and Jones suit up for some New York-based supernatural capers.
Hemsworth also joins the cast as the Ghostbusters’ office based secretary.

Ghostbusters was originally released in 1984 and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, and was followed up by Ghostbusters II in 1989.
A third film was scheduled but plans fell apart after Ramis’ sudden death and Murray’s lack of interest in the project.
However, Aykroyd will be making a cameo appearance in the female led reboot this summer.
Ghostbusters is released in UK cinemas on July 15, 2016.
