The Croods: review and trailer
THE Croods originated as an Aardman animation back in the day of Chicken Run when the company had a deal with Dreamworks.
Now it emerges as a Dreamworks only production although John Cleese, who came up with the original idea, retains a story credit. Aardman’s loss is...Dreamworks loss too, I’m afraid to say.
A story about a stone age family led by a Neanderthal dad, Grug (Nicolas Cage) who lives in fear of the world beyond his cave, it suffers from a weak story and rather bland characters.
The repetitive tale sees Grug and family, including adventurous daughter Eep (Emma Stone), face a series of life-threatening obstacles as their world literally crumbles around them thanks to the shifting landmass.
Disappointing.
