BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY has been nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor for Rami Malek’s Freddie Mercury.

This afternoon the nominations for the 91st Academy Awards were announced and Bohemian Rhapsody continues to surprise. A film that is just two per cent off a green splat on Rotten Tomatoes has been nominated for Best Picture. Not only that but Malek is the hot favourite for the Best Actor gong and the Queen biopic has also been recognised in Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. Of course, Bohemian Rhapsody won Best Drama Picture at the Golden Globes, so can it repeat its success?
It was certainly a big surprise and Coral currently have Bohemian Rhapsody at 16-1 to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
However, it’s behind several other films with Roma the overall favourite to win at 5-4.
Of course, there are the BAFTAs before then and Bohemian Rhapsody has been nominated for Outstanding British Film but was snubbed in the Best Film category.
Nevertheless, there’s an outside chance that the Freddie Mercury movie could surprise on Oscars night, just as it did at the Golden Globes.
Whatever happens, it’s unlikely that Bohemian Rhapsody will go home empty-handed from this year’s Oscars.
The film has certainly proven to be the underdog in the 2019 awards season, with a huge audience fan base in the face of critics’ snootiness.
The incredibly popular film, which has made almost $800 million worldwide, wasn’t even nominated for a single award.
Hopefully, there will be some more surprises for Bohemian Rhapsody in future ceremonies this month and next.
The 91st Academy Awards take place on February 24 in Hollywood.
