GHOSTBUSTER 3 trailer has suddenly landed and its a direct sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II. But will Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd return?
Ghostbusters: Jason Reitman's 'secret' movie teaser
Back in the 1980s, Ivan Reitman brought us the first two Ghostbusters movies which have gone on to become a major part of popular culture. Then, in 2016 a female-led reboot arrived with original cast cameos but had a disappointing box office performance. Now Reitman’s son Jason has announced he’s secretly been working on Ghostbusters 3, a direct sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II. Entertainment Weekly have shared the first teaser trailer for the sequel, which sees the Ghostbusters car Ecto-1 under a sheet in a shed, while familiar music and creepy sounds from the series are heard.
Reitman told the outlet: “What happened in the Eighties happened in the Eighties, and this is set in the present day.”
“This new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”
But will original Ghostbusters Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson finally return for the sequel?
Speaking on AXS TV’s The Big Interview, he said: “There is a possibility of a reunion with the three remaining Ghostbusters.
“It's being written right now... I think Billy will come.
“The story's so good. Even if he plays a ghost.”
Sadly Harold Ramis, who played Egon in the first two films, died in 2014 so can’t feature, unless they pay tribute to him somehow.
Meanwhile, an animated movie is also in the works from Sony Pictures Animation.
It’s been confirmed by producer and former Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman that “there’s going to be many other Ghostbusters movies, they’re just in development right now.”
Ghostbusters 3 is set for release in Summer 2020.
