James Bond: 'RUSH of bets' on THIS actor replacing Daniel Craig as 007
ANOTHER day, another nugget of movement in the betting market for the next James Bond. Who has had their odds cut this time?
GMB: Idris Elba claims he is NOT the next James Bond
We're still, presumably, at least two years away from Daniel Craig's successor being decided. But that hasn't stopped Bond fans rushing to place bets on who they think will take over in the iconic spy role. And now, this weekend it's been revealed that one ongoing frontrunner has seen a surge of support.
It seems, despite his own protestations that he's unlikely to be James Bond, Idris Elba has seen his odds cut.
The movement comes after punters raced to put money on him amid the beginning of promotion for the next season of Luther.
His odds are back down to 4/1, slashed from 6/1.
"Luther is one of the most popular shows on our screens and the excitement over the new series has seen plenty of fans rush to get their bets on Idris Elba to be the next 007," said Coral's Harry Aitkenhead.
"Everybody absolutely loves him and it's clear that they can picture him as the next Bond."
He remains behind Tom Hiddleston (5/4) and Richard Madden (2/1) in the rankings, and Madden said earlier this week that he recognises that any actor who leads a prolific TV drama is likely to find themselves in the frame.
"This is what happens with all these shows, like Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager," he told GQ.
"Then there's the next one. I'm the next one.”
"I'm very flattered and thankful. It's a really brilliant thing to be in."
It’s clear - and unsurprising - that there are no plans in motion for Craig’s successor just yet.
He is set to start work on what will presumably be his final outing as 007 in the new year.
James Bond 25 will then release to cinemas on Valentine's Day, 2020.
