The Calais Jungle must be flattened right now
THERE is little that better illustrates the mess this country is in over immigration than the revelation that an astonishing three migrants an hour have been trying to get into Britain illegally since 2010.
Clearance of the Calais camp is due to start on Monday
Much of this came from the problem of the “jungle camp” in Calais. And it reflects well on nobody in authority either in this country or France that the situation was allowed to get so out of control.
Long overdue work might have started today in an attempt to level the shanty town but why was it allowed to grow to the state it has done in the first place? How did those men (as the overwhelming majority are) get there at all?
They didn’t materialise out of nowhere, they had to travel across Europe providing the authorities with plenty of opportunities to apprehend them. And why were they allowed to build a base from which to try to enter this country illegally? This is an utterly shameful state of affairs.
Everything about the Calais jungle seems designed to be a slap in the face of the British people.
Witness the “children” who have been given the right to travel here, some of whom would appear to be in their 30s according to facial recognition technology.
It is not enough to flatten the jungle, the authorities across Europe must adopt a much tougher stance on illegal immigration as their own citizens are also demanding.
Authorities say 7,000 people live in the Calais Jungle
Across Europe the people have finally had enough.

Another pensions crisis
It is sometimes difficult to recall but until the election of Labour in 1997 this country boasted the gold standard in pension planning. Then along came Gordon Brown and his raid on the nation’s pension pots and it has been downhill ever since.
The latest disaster to befall the industry is revealed today: a scandalous one-third of pension savings could be gobbled up by fees and charges purely by virtue of being in a pension pot.

Green vows to fix pensions crisis despite health problems
As this state-condoned theft continues the population is getting older and has been repeatedly told it is not saving enough for retirement.
But where’s the impetus if this is the state of play? We are sleep walking into a crisis regarding funding our old age.

A very convenient truth
Most women feel that housework is the bane of their existence and will be surprised to learn that it adds three years to their life. Strangely enough this does not appear to apply to the male of the species.
So the sexes are affected so differently when faced with household chores? Whichever could have been responsible for this particular report?
