Thieves put in llamas’ way
FORGET guard dogs, farmers are alpac-ing a new weapon in the war against countryside crime: llamas. These grumpy South American beasts are now being placed in fields of sheep in a bid to stop rustlers in their tracks.
The soaring price of food means rustling is now a lucrative trade for criminal gangs, who stole 69,000 sheep last year.
However even the most determined bandit would think twice about taking on llamas, which can spit and headbutt when angry.
Ewe see, it’s not such a baa-rking idea after all.
