Brown's shameful legacy
HUMAN nature dictates that there are bound to be a few bad apples among our 645 MPs.
But a Prime Minister must always act in such a way that he or she is above suspicion of any possible wrongdoing.
Sadly Gordon Brown, for all his claims of son-of-the-manse propriety, has allowed himself to be tainted by the scandal of MPs’ expenses and is now
“Highly likely” to have to pay back public money.
No doubt he will tell us he hasn’t broken the law but may have simply gone against the spirit of the rules in the way he chose to pay the cleaner he shared with his brother. But that defence won’t wash.
We expect the person who heads our government to be someone of sound judgment to whom it is second nature to act in a manner which is beyond reproach. to his shame, Brown has let us down. that will be his legacy.
