Hooray for honesty
THERE is at least one honest person in Britain today – Arron Large, a street cleaner who found a £21,000 Rolex watch in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, and, rather than keeping it, handed it in.
There was once a time when that would have been the obvious thing to do. Not any more.
Last year, heavily jetlagged, I used a cashpoint, took back my card and forgot the money. I realised my mistake within about five seconds but when I turned back it was gone.
That was theft, pure and simple, and yet it’s becoming the norm. Arron, you’ve done us all proud.
