Radio 4's Mishal Husain is ready for her debut
I WAS doing something or other at Radio 4 the other week and spotted newsreader Mishal Husain, above, in a studio, "shadowing" another presenter as she prepared for her debut this week as a presenter on Today.
Husain is even more striking in the flesh than she is on screen. The epitome of elegance and poise. She waved cheerfully at me from behind the soundproofed glass and I gave her the thumbs-up and mouthed "good luck".
Not that she needed it. She sounded terrific on Monday - warm, authoritative and friendly. I noticed that although Evan Davis was slated as her co-presenter it was the old warhorse himself John Humphrys who had made sure he was harnessed with her. Humphrys was in even more snorting form than usual. When Husain said, "It is 12 minutes past six," he followed with, "It is 13 minutes past six."
Now, now. Elbows in, John. Play nicely.
