The suspicious case of the murderous mollusc
WELL, who did you think dunnit? Our money was on the vicar. Slippery sort of fellow, we thought, certain to turn out to be the bane of Broadchurch.
But no, poor 11-year-old Danny Latimer's killer turned out to be Joe Miller, husband of detective Ellie (the peerless Olivia Colman). And the show's creator Chris Chibnall insists there were "little clues all along" as to the murderer's identity. Really? Like what?
"Well, for example," says Chibnall, "the slug that Ellie squashes in the finale was first shown on their carpet in episode two - a metaphor that there's an intruder in the house." Er... that's a clue?
Broadchurch is coming back for a second series. We must view all slugs, snails and molluscs of every description with the profoundest suspicion.
