The next President Hillary Clinton
NEXT week Hillary Clinton steps down as US Secretary of State. She says she just wants to rest, to sleep, and that she is desperately tired.
Her workload over the past four years indicates how depleted she must feel. She has travelled to 112 countries, notching up a million air miles.
And of course she recently ended up in a New York hospital with a blood clot near her brain after suffering concussion when she fainted on a trip to Egypt after becoming dehydrated.
Sadly she insists she won’t run for president in four years’ time, much to the dismay of her multitude of fans.
Meryl Streep calls Hillary “the voice of her generation”, adding: “I’m an actress and she’s the real deal.”
Polls reveal Hillary Clinton is the most admired woman in the world, far ahead of Michelle Obama or our own Queen.
I just want to sleep and exercise and travel for fun and relax
The singer Sheryl Crow has written a song about her, containing these lyrics: “Don’t you think it’s time we put a woman in the White House... after 230-something years of waiting?”
But Hillary is exhausted, saying: “I just want to sleep and exercise and travel for fun and relax. It sounds so ordinary but I haven’t done it for 20 years. I would like to see whether I can get un-tired.”
Nobody would blame her for not running in 2016 when she will be 69.
But millions, including me, would be hugely disappointed. The first woman president of the United States.
I can’t think of anyone better.
