TONY BLAIR shares with Lady Thatcher the distinction of having won three successive general elections.
So his vote share dropped by eight points in eight years and hers by only 1.7 points over a similar period
The share of the vote he recorded was 43.2 per cent in 1997, then 40.7 per cent in 2001 and finally 35.2 per cent in 2005.
Thatcher’s vote shares were 43.9 per cent in 1979, 42.4 per cent in 1983 and 42.2 per cent in 1987.
So his vote share dropped by eight points in eight years and hers by only 1.7 points over a similar period.
