Michael Gove is potential future leader of the Conservative Party
CHIRPY Education Secretary Michael Gove is widely tipped as a potential future leader of the Conservative Party.
Indeed, supporters say he enjoys considerable support from key sources.
However, if he is to go for it he has to get in tune with female voters, and quickly.
While mums and dads up and down the land applaud his announcement to get more rigour into our examination system and to take core subjects back to basics, his determination to scrap coursework in many areas and radically limit re-sits is plain wrong.
A child can work damned hard for years and easily have an off day on the key examination date for any reason from hay fever to parents fighting or even the death of the family pet the night before and a limited, but important, appreciation of coursework guards against that.
Mums realise that and many are openly hostile to Gove over this.
The Education Secretary needs to learn this lesson.
