Few young people can afford £16,000 per year for university
THE Vice Chancellor of Oxford University has floated the idea of tuition fees rising to £16,000 per year.
Blair brought them in at £3,000, while Cameron and Clegg trebled them to £9,000.
In each case this represented only a fraction of the fees charged by the private schools they attended. To politicians from such backgrounds even £16,000 will probably seem a bargain.
But to young people from non-privileged families it will seem very scary indeed. It must not be allowed to happen.
