Raquel is still a stunningly lovely woman
SOME cosmetic intervention is positively stomach churning.
I'm still recovering from the terrifying vista of Barry Manilow's mangled "boat race" magnified a hundred-fold on gigantic screens at London's vast O2 Arena as the nation waits to get used to Sharon Osbourne's re-interpreted face looming out of our TV's on X Factor.
Raquel Welch, pictured, still staggeringly beautiful at 73, seems to have picked the right surgeon. Although glacier smooth and implausibly tight of chin she still looks like her sexy self in her intoxicating heyday.
Her eyes haven't turned to slits. Her cheeks haven't been padded like cheap pillows. Her ears don't give the impression of having been picked up off the operating theatre floor and stitched back on as an afterthought.
Ms Welch's hair may have been augmented but who cares? She's still the glamorous creature I appeared with nearly 20 years ago on the Jimmy Tarbuck Show. I brought my sister and a magazine to read. Raquel brought her own lighting and technician and demanded her interview be prerecorded so she could check her face before broadcast.
