A SURVEY says many Brits try to make themselves sound posh by changing their accent.
It says something about our society when leading figures think they have to sound like ignoramuses to get ahead
But our politicos go the other way.
First there was Tony Blair (Fettes and Oxford) with his glottal stops and now we have George Osborne (St Paul’s and Oxford), talking about those “outa work” and the “somethin’ for nothin’ culture”.
What does it say about a society in which leading figures think they have to sound like ignoramuses to get ahead?
