The Crown drama leaves me conflicted – is it really okay asks VANESSA FELTZ
I love The Crown but I’m morally conflicted. How can it be okay to write fiction about living individuals and perform it so well that it feels like a documentary?
Watching bedroom conversations between the Queen and Prince Philip in the first series was unsettling. No writer knows what they say in their boudoir, yet once seen it could never be unseen and we could semi-believe that everything really happened.
Series 3 hints at an affair between the Queen and her racing manager and shows Princess Anne in a steamy scene with Andrew Parker Bowles.
No protestation that this is conjecture will alleviate the misery it causes the royals, who alone know the fact from the fiction.
