Iain Stirling: Love Island's Dani Dyer is 'up for a laugh'
The hotly-anticipated new series of the ITV2 reality series brought plenty of drama as viewers tuned in to watch the fresh batch of singletons couple up for the first time.
With Dani, 21, being the daughter of famous EastEnders tough guy Danny, 40, it wasn’t long before they predicted a bumpy road ahead for her potential boyfriends on the show.
Fans flooded Twitter with memes and GIFs about the actor as they pondered his possible reaction to Dani’s antics.
One shared a snap of a Danny looking despairing, quipping: “Danny Dyer watching at home rn like…”(sic)
After Dani chose to pair up with stationary sales manager Jack, 26, many viewers were exasperated on Danny’s behalf.
Danny Dyer ready to knock those veneers out
“When your daughter could have picked anyone, including a doctor but she goes for the one who sells bl***y pens,” one tweeted, along with a hilarious picture of him sporting a pair of pineapple-shaped sunglasses and a baffled expression.
Meanwhile, another shared a clip of Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, saying: “Sell me this pen…”
“Danny Dyer when Jack goes round to meet the parents,” they joked.
Yet another unimpressed shot of the EastEnders star was accompanied by the caption: “Danny Dyer ready to knock those veneers out.”
Dani, however, seemed delighted with her choice during the first episode of Love Island.
Coming clean about her famous father to her new partner Jack, she could be seen admitting: “My dad… Let’s just get it out the way: my dad’s Danny Dyer.
“I had to bring up my dad,” she told the cameras later. “I knew sooner or later that I would mention who my dad was. And it was actually a really nice reaction.”
The brunette beauty was pleased the hunk hadn’t responded by quoting one of her dad’s film lines, saying: “Usually boys get a little bit... they start getting all ‘gangster’ and they start quoting films.
“He didn’t quote one quote and I thought, ‘Thank God for that.’”
Jack seemed equally taken with his new girl, saying: “First impressions of Dani, she’s really pretty.
“She’s really easy to get on with,” he continued. “I think she’s lovely.
“Where we’re quite similar. I just felt instant… not awkward, I can talk to her, have a good chat.
“Again, you just don’t know,” he said, adding: “I really like her. I fancy her.”
Dani also confessed Jack was the type of guy she usually goes for, quipping: “My mates would go to me, ‘What are you doing Dan?’”
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
