He has recently spoken out about the brutal rape scene that featured in the first episode of the drama.
He told Huffington Post: "The rape in the first episode is quite awful, rape's not a good intro, but it's a heavy storyline. It's a town of violence and testosterone.
"There's not much joviality. Everything on the page is justified, there's no shock value in the writing," the 46-year-old explained.

Despite that, Max defended his character to press including Express.co.uk at a recent Q&A for Jamestown.
"Before that, I see Henry as a hero. I think he's a great man. He's driving for gold and he will do anything to get it and he does, only to find out it's not gold, it's tobacco," he explained.
Jamestown continues tomorrow on Sky1 at 9pm.
