The 64-year-old revealed that money was no object when it came down to buying his 36-year-old other half an engagement ring, also joking that it's finally time to "grow up".
Speaking to OK! magazine about his fiancee, David gushed: "She didn’t have a clue about the proposal and it was all a big surprise. It was pretty cool."
He added of the moment he bought the ring: "I just saw it and threw down my credit card. I said, if this goes through then holy s**t!
"We’d been together for five years and you’ve got to grow up sometime! You don’t marry someone because you want to be with them, you marry them because you can’t be without them."

David Hasselhoff is Engaged to Hayley Roberts
This will be David's third marriage, with him previously tying the knot with Catherine Hickland, before they got divorced five years later in 1989.
Nine months after the split, he married Pamela Bach and had two daughters, Taylor and Hayley, before the couple filed for divorce again in 2006.
The actor and singer - known as 'The Hoff' - is set to star as himself in the upcoming Baywatch movie alongside Zac Efron and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. He previously played lifeguard Mitch Buchannon.

Slamming claims that the original TV series was "sexist", David insisted that "most Los Angeles lifeguards look like Pamela Anderson".
He went on to tell the publication: "I secretly pretended I didn’t like my scene but the script is actually really funny.
"It’s exactly like the episodes! In the beginning we got so much heat about being a ‘sexist’ show, but I said go to beaches in California and I’ll show you lifeguards who look just like Pamela Anderson."
As well as starring in the hit series, which ran for 242 episodes from 1989 to 2001, David also served as executive producer.
