Steve Brookstein sparks fury by admitting he was 'oblivious to 7/7' due to No1 album
FORMER X Factor winner Steve Brookstein has caused Twitter outrage after he admitted he was "totally oblivious to 7/7 attacks" because he was celebrating his album reaching number one.
Steve Brookstein's tweet about the 7/7 attacks caused mass outrage
The 46-year-old singer, who won the first ever series of the hit talent show back in 2004, angered fans with an "insensitive" post on the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 London terror attacks.
Steve tweeted earlier today: "10 years ago I was heading home from New York and Barcelona after celebrating a No1 album. Totally oblivious to 7/7 attacks."
Speaking on his success, he continued: "Sadly it coincided with 7/7 and the 2004 tsunami. So maybe I shouldn't mention it."
Followers called the jazz crooner selfish, and some asked him to delete his Twitter account.
One wrote: "@stevebrookstein how insensitive to all the families of the victims of 7/7. Maybe think less about your album and more about their loss."
Fans were disgusted with his 'insensitive' words
Someone else said: "And you wondered why you struggled to capture the nation's hearts?"
A third tweeted: "@stevebrookstein. Ironic. Because as all those folk were being blown apart they were totally oblivious to your phenomenal success."
His "tactless" outburst caused him to trend on Twitter, causing him to post a cryptic follow-up tweet, perhaps suggesting that he had caused offence in order to attract attention.
"I think it's amazing that a guy who has been a flop for 10 years can trend," he said. "That's propaganda for you. @HorneyMedia."
Across the nation, members of the public held a minute's silence today at 11.30am to remember the 52 lives that were taken by the terrorist bombings.
