Network bosses deny offering Morrissey alternative Christmas Day speech
Bosses at Channel 4 have denied asking outspoken rocker MORRISSEY to front an alternative to QUEEN ELIZABETH II's famous annual Christmas Day speech.
The former The Smiths frontman claimed this week (beg08Dec14) that he had "politely declined an invitation" from bosses of the station to appear in his own televised broadcast, which would air at the same time as the monarch's speech to the country on the BBC.
The anti-royal rocker insisted he turned down the offer because he did not want to "trade slaps" over the festive season, but Channel 4 officials have now denied inviting him to front the broadcast in the first place.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 tells NME.com, "We are not aware of any approach having been made to Morrissey to deliver Channel 4's Alternative Christmas message."
