'Watches and designer undies are out': Downton Abbey bans items after bottle incident
THE ENTERTAINMENT world took to social media last week and united in laughter when an official picture from Downton Abbey had a rather modern item misplaced in the background.
A snap of Robert, Earl of Grantham and Lady Edith Crawley - from 1924 - had a plastic water bottle in the background.
But it seems, although fans laughed along with the cast rather than at them, measures have been put in place to stop a repeat of the embarrassing situation.
A member of the Downton cast reportedly told the Telegraph a list of banned fashion items had been circulated after last week's drama.
They said: "Modern watches and jewellery are out and so even is designer underwear, as the danger is apparently too great, if, say, a chap is bent over.
"They have relented in the case of prescription glasses and asthma guns, but that’s about it."
Although the situation obviously spurred a debate at Downton HQ, the stars posted a tongue-in-cheek picture of them each holding a water bottle.
The picture was actually in aid of charity WaterAid - turning an awkward situation into a money-making move for charity.
Lord Julian Fellowes said: "It was a silly mistake, of course, and I suppose someone will be blown up for it, but if the cast can turn it around and actually help to raise some money for such a terrific cause, then I’m glad it happened."
He added: "Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat."
