It's official: Clooney and Amal will wed
GEORGE Clooney will definitely marry British fiancee Amal Alamuddin after they posted their wedding banns at a London register office.
Barrister Amal, 36, made a discreet solo trip to the civic office in Chelsea to post the notice which has been on display along with dozens for other couples.
But last night, after being on public view for the required 16 days, the document was shredded – to the disappointment of celebrity watchers. Nor should the starstruck hang around the town hall in the King’s Road hoping for a glimpse of 53-year-old Clooney’s wedding.
We do sometimes have celebrities turning up in the background. You’ll be doing a wedding for a young graphic designer and suddenly a Hollywood A-lister or someone like David Bowie will turn up
The document shows he intends to marry in Italy, possibly next month, at his £25million home by Lake Como.
The star persuaded the local mayor to bring in strict laws protecting his privacy until the end of September, suggesting he will hold his wedding there.
Dean Geoghegan, the register office superintendent, said: “I think the girls in the office were disappointed George Clooney himself didn’t come in [to sign the banns].
“We do sometimes have celebrities turning up in the background. You’ll be doing a wedding for a young graphic designer and suddenly a Hollywood A-lister or someone like David Bowie will turn up.
“Or you see the paperwork and go, ‘Oh blimey, that’s George Clooney’.”
