The preview screening of the final installment of "The Hobbit trilogy" conjured up an audience of 6,500 attendees at Hall H in the San Diego Convention Centre over the weekend.
The exclusive snippet showed royal elf Galadriel played by Blanchett kissing the forehead of Sir Ian Mckellen's wizard character Gandalf, while being surrounded by legions of elves and orcs gearing up for battle.
Elsewhere at the convention, which has become a top venue for movie studios to unveil blockbuster projects, the Marvel superheroes from Iron Man to Captain America teased fans with a clip from Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The screening - which showcased the sequel trailer to 2012's Avengers Assemble- included a star-studded panel of Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) and Samuel L Jackson (Nick Fury) .
This is the longest bench of talent I've ever been on," Downey said.
"I become a little less significant every time and that's fine because they're all just that damn good."
According to Empire magazine the trailer started off with the team of superheroes kicking back in the Avengers tower after a party, all attempting to lift Thor's hammer.
But the party is brought to an abrupt end by Ultron, who declares: "You’re killers. You want to protect the world, but you don’t want it to change.
Fans will have to wait until May 1 to see the rest of the movie on the bigscreen.
