The next Darth Vader? JJ Abrams 'close to casting villain' for Star Wars: Episode VII
GIRLS star Adam Driver is reportedly close to becoming the new villain for the eagerly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.
The 30-year-old actor is allegedly in talks with director JJ Abrams to star as a character in the vein of iconic antagonist Darth Vader.
The up-and-coming actor's involvement in the production was hinted at by Lena Dunham, who created the hit HBO series Adam stars in.
She posted on Twitter: "We're VERY proud of Adam Driver re: Star Wars. He's about to rip a hole in da force. Is that a thing? I guess I should see those movies?"
Sources have told US showbiz magazine Variety that the Girls star is close to signing a deal and it could be announced in a matter of days.
The Matrix and The Lord of The Rings actor Hugo Weaving along with 12 Years A Slave star Michael Fassbender were rumoured to be vying for the role.
However, Variety claims that in recent weeks Adam has become the top choice to play the villain in Star Wars: Episode VII.
The beginning of the third Star Wars trilogy is due to start filming at Pinewood Studios in the UK in April.
Original trilogy members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are expected to feature in the new Star Wars movie.
Last month 57-year-old actress Carrie said she will reprise her role of Princess Leila.
In an interview with US magazine TV Guide, she said: "I'd like to wear my old [cinnamon buns] hairstyle again - but with white hair.
"I think that would be funny."
Star Wars: Episode VII is due to be released on December 18 2015.
