Cliff Richard admits he was lucky to escape today's 'destructive' showbiz industry
SIR CLIFF RICHARD says he probably wouldn’t have made it in showbiz if he’d been a wannabe starting out in 2013.
The 73-year-old singer, whose career has spanned more than five decades, believes the fickle side of the music business is now hurting potential stars.
“The industry has changed drastically and that damages young artists,” Sir Cliff tells Sky News.
“They don’t have the same support system that we had. They wanted us to be happy. Today I would have been dropped after the first flop.”
Sir Cliff also offered his perspective on Miley Cyrus, who has been hitting the headlines with her controversial behaviour, revealing that it was his family who ensured that he remained grounded.
He says of the 20-year-old American singer: “She’s been a child star. I’ve got a sister who’s got children and getting kids through the teenage years is really tough.
I just hope Miley grows out of it.
“This industry can be very destructive. I’m not sure why that happens, or why I was lucky enough to not have that happen to me.
“I feel families keep your feet pinned to the ground. I still think of my dad now.”
