Soap star Cheryl Fergison praises ‘incredible’ Health Lottery players
ACTRESS Cheryl Fergison praised Health Lottery players who have raised millions of pounds for good causes.
The former EastEnders star visited Tesco Superstore in Old Swan, Liverpool, where more than £9,000 has been raised for local charities through Health Lottery ticket sales.
As ambassador for the Health Lottery, Cheryl congratulated store manager Peter Green.
She said: “It’s an incredible achievement for one store to raise that much money and people up and down the country have made an incredible effort. I’ve been walking around the store and people recognise me from EastEnders so it gets them interested in what we’re doing, which is brilliant.”
Cheryl praised the Health Lottery for supporting smaller local causes which are often overlooked.
She said: “I do a lot of work for Great Ormond Street Hospital and smaller projects often struggle to get any help.
“I’m very lucky and blessed to be able to help out with opportunities like this. We just want people to keep playing the Health Lottery and carry on the exceptional work.”
The store helped celebrate by donating food to nearby charity Healing Space, which helps people with mild mental health problems.
The charity has received nearly £10,000 from the Health Lottery in the past year.
The money was raised through The Health Lottery by community interest company HealthFit.
Spokesman Maria Bavington said: “It’s brilliant to have someone like Cheryl here to show her support. It’s a big pat on the back.”
