Sleep apnoea is a condition which is characterised by interrupted breathing during sleep.
It occurs when muscles at the back of the throat cover airways and if the condition goes untreated it can become life threatening.
The sleep disorder is relatively common with studies showing that 60 per cent of those aged over 65 suffer from the condition.
