TV wars as Downton Abbey challenges Doctor Who for honours
DOWNTON Abbey is set to go head to head with Doctor Who for the title of top drama at this year’s National Television Awards.
ITV1’s hit saga about the Crawley family has been shortlisted for the awards for the first time, it was announced yesterday. It is up against Merlin and last year’s winner Waterloo Road, as well as Doctor Who, for the title.
Doctor Who stars are vying for two further awards with Matt Smith, who plays The Doctor, up for best male performance, while Karen Gillan who plays Amy Pond, is up for best female.
In popular entertainment, Ant and Dec will be hoping to take the top presenter prize for an 11th consecutive year. The Geordie duo lines up against X Factor host Dermot O’Leary, and comedians Keith Lemon and Michael McIntyre.
