Penny Lancaster shares 'emotional' post as she's hailed an 'inspiration'

Penny Lancaster had her followers in utter awe as she returned to work after an injury, following her qualifying as Special Constable with the City of London Police in 2021, volunteering around 200 hours a year. And one big event for Penny was going to work at the London Marathon as she told her Instagram followers that she was "so happy to be back on duty". She added: "What better duty than the London Marathon? Inspirational and emotional. Fun and Family. Emotional and Empowering." Penny continued: "Thank you to all those who took part, came and supported, donated and volunteered on the day!"

Rod Stewart's wife shared the post to her feed alongside a number of photos from the day, including one of her in uniform as her followers rushed to share their support in the comments below. One user wrote: "Fabulous Penny! You are a total inspiration."

Another wrote: "Thank you for your service to us all and for keeping us safe in the city." A third added: "You are amazing, keep doing you! A fantastic role model for women of all ages." A fourth wrote: "Super woman and the biggest inspiration."

Penny has previously opened up about her decision to train, telling Loose Women: "It's that whole thing of when women get to 50, it's not the end, absolutely not. Forget menopause, forget all that. If you get the help and support you need, we're capable of anything... so learn a new skill."

And her husband Rod has also been incredibly supportive in her journey as she continued: "He's seen the dedication I have with the force and what it gives me back, as well as what I can give them. We're a good team, we bounce off each other's energies. He supports my jobs and my roles that I take on and vice versa."

Penny has found herself on the frontline for multiple major events, including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of King Charles III. However, in 2024, her role was forced to come to a stop after an injury sidelined her from active duties, she sustained a torn meniscus in her right knee which put her out of action.

She told The One Show last month that she was still recovering but vowed to be back on duty as soon as she is able, and she was thrilled to have been able to return for the marathon. It's been four years that she's been actively working in the police, and she told the programme that she has also arrested people, with arrests made for both drink driving and drug driving, previously.
