Charles Hanson confirms Antiques Road Trip future after ‘nightmare’
The auctioneer has been absent from our screens since 2023, but now he's making the ultimate comeback.

BBC presenter Charles Hanson sent fans wild as he issued a major career update after suffering a “nightmare” day. The former Bargain Hunt star last appeared on our screens back in 2023, but the TV star is set to come back with a bang, and fans don't have long to wait. The dad-of-two is returning to our screens on Antiques Road Trip, where he will be paired with show favourite, Roo Irvine.
Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – the auctioneer revealed to his 52,000-strong fan base that his return to fame hasn’t been without its struggles, as he shared a clip of his nightmare day online on Monday (December 1). After pulling over at a petrol station, the television personality recalled the series of unfortunate events.

He confessed: “It's been a nightmare day for me today; it’s been a nightmare. Why? Because my phone froze literally for eight hours. It wasn’t anything to do with the weather, it’s so mild, it’s been 13 degrees. It’s just soggy, dank, dismal and grey.
“And then, whilst the phone was frozen and it couldn’t get much worse, my windscreen cracked. A pebble hit the windscreen just in the centr,e and you can just see a crack running all the way up it.”
But after all the struggles life threw at him, he shared the silver lining to his day. Hanson gushed: “Don’t worry. Although my car needs some TLC, I’m back. Next Monday night, I’m back for a full week, you’ll see me on the Antiques Road Trip, cruising in my car with Roo Irvine, divine lady. Tune in.
“I can’t wait to get back on the Antiques Road Trip, in that seat, finding cruise control, clutch, mirrors, signal, manoeuvre. I’m getting a new windscreen tomorrow, and my phone now isn’t frozen. Have a good evening.”

It didn’t take long before his loyal legion of fans flocked to the comments to pass on their congratulations online. One user penned: “Best news I’ve heard all week!” as another echoed: “Can’t wait to see your gorgeous face back on the telly Charles [heart emoji].”
A third chimed in with: “Bless you, Charles. I’ll be sure to watch you next week on the Antiques Road Trip [heart emoji].” Charles will appear on Antiques Road Trip on Monday, December 8, at 4.30pm on BBC One or catch up on BBC iPlayer.
