After a brief hiatus from social media, Janey Godley returned to share her appreciation after receiving a huge honour from the University of Glasgow.

In an Instagram post, Ashley, the Scot’s daughter, announced that her mother had received an honorary degree while in palliative care.

She also included a sweet photo of Janey, she wrote: “Thank you @UofGlasgow for bestowing upon my mum the honorary degree of doctor of the University of Glasgow.

“This has brought her so much joy in the final beats of her life. Janey is so honoured, and I am so immensely proud of her.

“Congratulations Doctor Godley. Ashley Storrie,” she concluded alongside a snap of Janey in the hospital bed clutching her qualification.

The 64-year-old is currently receiving end-of-life care following an ovarian cancer diagnosis three years ago, which she sadly revealed in September, had spread.

Ashley is Janey’s only daughter with her husband Sean Storrie who she has been married to since 1980 when she was just 19.

Ashley has followed in her mother’s footsteps to become a stand-up comedian and BBC Radio Scotland host.

Throughout her battle, Janey has remained open and honest with fans about her health, often updating them on social media.

Earlier this month, Janey received an outpouring of love and support from her followers after she confirmed that she had relocated to a hospice.

In a hilarious clip with a close pal, the former BBC star said: “Shirley and me, and we’re having a good old day, still in the hospice still got some tubes.

“I’ve got a tube taking stuff for my tummy, I’ve got a drip giving me some water because I’m still a bit thirsty and I’m at the end-of-life care.

“I don’t have all the answers that you have all the questions to, but my mouth’s a bit dry hence that noise,” Janey added: “Sending you my love,” as she blew a kiss to the camera.
