Miranda Hart has opened up about her emotional first encounter with her now-husband, revealing that their initial date was marked by shared tears. The actress recently announced she had married a man she met during the lockdown period, and although she's kept his identity under wraps, she disclosed that their first meeting was an unexpectedly tearful affair.

In a candid revelation, Miranda described how they initially connected over a socially-distanced cup of tea, which led to a profound conversation. She reflected on how this unique situation allowed her to feel more at ease, as it removed the pressure of contemplating the "ghastly" prospect of a first kiss.

Penning her experiences in her latest autobiography, 'I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You', Miranda detailed: "The date therefore consisted of a cup of tea in my sitting room, with some social distancing in force, passing biscuits to each other at arm's length.

"In many ways, it made it feel more relaxed. There's no fear of how to partake of the often ghastly first-kiss lunge when we have to be two metres apart!"

She further explained her approach to the burgeoning relationship, adding: "However, having met The Boy once briefly, and having chatted to him a couple of times on the phone (very nineties of us), I was already pretty taken by him.

"I therefore decided I was going to practise not hiding myself or any natural emotions. I was going to be vulnerable to forge as honest a connection as I could."

However, Miranda recounted that emotions ran high, ending in a teary moment. She confessed: "Yes, we'd been chatting and getting on very well and easily, thank you very much, please. I didn't police a beautiful, natural, connecting moment when he told me about a dog he'd lost ten years earlier, and how sad he still feels when he thinks of that goodbye. He too welled up a little," reports the Mirror.

The first encounter between Miranda and her future husband happened at her London home when he arrived to address a damp issue. It turns out the building surveyor made quite the impression, with the two arranging to see each other again soon after.

Detailing her romantic journey, the comedian wrote in her book: "I met my best friend and the love of my life who brings me more silliness, laughter, joy, support, care and safety than I thought possible in a person, because I lost my house due to mould illness and he was the building surveyor on the house remediation project.

"Yes my love was Mr Mould Man/ My Mr Mould Man/ The Boy/ The Boy from Bristol/ The Boyfriend.

"I haven't been entirely honest with you, he's not my boyfriend, he's my husband. We got married when I was 51."

While Miranda has kept most details about her husband under wraps, she did share his "fine features" and "salt and pepper grey hair"
